USWNT Olympic Roster and Schedule (2024)

It’s that time again. In July and August, the best athletes from around the world will gather in Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. For soccer, that includes the beloved USA Women’s Soccer Olympic (USWNT) team. Fans can watch beloved players like Mallory Swanson, Trinity Rodman, and Sophia Smith take the field and play their hearts out to win the gold for their country.

The Latest USWNT Olympic News

In June, USWNT head coach Emma Hayes announced that she had chosen 18 women and four alternates from the team to represent the USA at the 2024 Olympics. Only eight of the players had previously played in the Olympics.1 The coach also commented that she wanted some of the younger players to gain more experience before competing in the future.2 The USWNT has a strong shot at winning the gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, even without their star player, Alex Morgan.

Alex Morgan and the 2024 Olympics

Many fans have wondered if Alex Morgan is playing in the 2024 Olympics. The answer to that question is no. For the first time since 2008, the USWNT Olympics roster won’t have Morgan on it. When Hayes announced the names of the players who made the team earlier this summer, she shocked fans everywhere when she didn’t mention Morgan.

Hayes explained the reasoning during a press conference, “It was not easy making a decision. There are 16 outfield players and two goalkeepers on a roster of 18. It was a tough decision, especially considering Alex’s record and history with this team. I felt I wanted to go in another direction and selected other players.”3

Morgan, who currently plays for the San Diego Wave, is a captain of the USWNT, and has been on the team for more than 12 years. Throughout that time, she has earned countless awards and accolades and has become a household name for soccer fans.
