When Does the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team Play Again?

The U.S. Women’s National Soccer team took home the gold medal in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, making it the fifth time they have won the Olympics Games since 1996. Not only did this excite their current fans, but it helped this group of talented athletes gain numerous fans, including young soccer players who hope to join the team one day themselves.

So, when can you catch their next match? Luckily, you don’t have to wait until the 2028 Olympics to see them take to the field again.

Upcoming Events for the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team

The United States Women’s National Soccer Team has won four World Cup titles (1991, 1999, 2015, and 2019) and five Olympic gold medals (1996, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2024), but those events are only held every four years. Luckily, the team, which is part of the Confederation of North, Central American, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), has some upcoming events for the remainder of 2024.

Post-Olympic Press and Events

Of course, many fans of USA women’s soccer are still riding high from the big win at the 2024 Olympic Games. The team defeated Brazil 1-0 in the final, after also beating Zambia, Germany, Australia, and Japan. Since then, there have been some major shakeups on the women’s national soccer team and in women’s soccer, in general.

Fan favorite Alex Morgan, who made headlines in July when she wasn’t selected for the Olympic team, announced in September that she was retiring from the sport. “It has been a long time coming, and this decision wasn’t easy, but at the beginning of 2024, I felt in my heart and soul that this was the last season that I would play soccer,” the 35-year-old striker said in a statement. Morgan also announced that she is pregnant with her second child and plans to spend time with her family.

Twila Kilgore, the team’s assistant coach and former interim head coach, also announced that she was leaving the team in September. During her tenure, she coached the team to a 10-1-3 record, and as an assistant, she contributed to their 2024 Olympic gold medal. “Being a part of this storied program as both an assistant and interim head coach has been both a privilege and a rewarding experience,” she said in a statement.

Key Tournaments and Matches

For fans of the team who are looking forward to new matches, several games are just around the corner. The U.S. women’s soccer schedule features several friendlies throughout the fall of 2024. You can catch them on the following dates:

  • USA vs. Iceland on October 24 and October 27
  • USA vs. Argentina on October 30
  • USA vs. England on November 30

Where to Watch the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team

The two matches against Iceland will be held in Austin, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee, respectively, while the match versus Argentina will take place in Louisville, Kentucky. The match against England will take place across the pond in London.

If you aren’t lucky enough to have tickets to any of those matches, you can always catch them from the comfort of your own home. Friendlies featuring the USA women’s soccer team are typically broadcast on Max (formerly HBO Max), although you can sometimes catch them on TNT or TBS. You can also watch some matches on the Peacock app.

Star Players to Keep an Eye On

With several veterans saying goodbye to the sport, many fans are keeping their eyes on some of the younger women on the team to perform in upcoming tournaments. Pay close attention to Mallory Swanson in the coming months. The 26-year-old forward scored the winning — and only — goal in the final against Brazil during the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Additionally, forward Trinity Rodman, who joined the team in 2022, is another one to watch. Sophia Smith is another player who is quickly becoming a fan favorite. The Colorado native scored three goals throughout the Olympics in 2024, and she has won numerous awards over the last couple of years for her on-the-field talent.

Team Updates

Several key USWNST players suffered injuries in September that could impact their ability to play in the upcoming friendlies. Sophia Smith, who typically plays for the Portland Thorns, left the field with an ankle injury during a match in September. According to her coach, it wasn’t too serious, but she may miss some playing time. Trinity Rodman, who plays for the Washington Spirit, also suffered an injury in September. During a match against the Kansas City Current, she had an “intense back spasm” and was eventually removed from the field via wheelchair.
